Let’s Set the Scene
Have you ever embarked on a new venture with a burst of energy, only to encounter a roadblock that brings you to your knees? The initial zeal fades, motivation dissipates, and you’re left questioning your capabilities. Self-doubt creeps in, and soon you find yourself in a tangle of impostor syndrome and uncertainty. Sound familiar? We’ve all been there.
The Self-Doubt Dance
Whether you put yourself out in the world with a new product or crafted a coaching programme that didn’t attract the expected sign-ups, disappointment hits hard. These stumbling blocks are inevitable parts of our journey. We all will face hurdles, taste defeat, become demotivated, and, at some point, doubt ourselves. The pivotal question then is, how do you keep going when things get tough?
The Power of Your ‘Why’
The answer lies within your ‘why.’ Your ‘why’ is the bedrock of your motivation. It’s your internal compass, guiding you through stormy seas. It fuels your heart and shapes your dreams. It provides resilience in the face of failures, courage to overcome fears, and determination to relentlessly pursue your dreams.
Zig Ziglar, a world-renowned author and motivational speaker, once said, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.” This holds true for your ‘why’; reconnecting with it daily breathes life into your purpose.
However, if you haven’t identified your ‘why’, it becomes exceedingly difficult to persist when life’s unpredictable punches knock you down.
Uncover Your ‘Why’: A Step-by-Step Guide
To fortify your resolve and help you move past hurdles with grace, here is a simple yet effective exercise to discover your ‘why’. Follow these steps and keep your ‘why’ alive:
Journal It: Put your ‘why’ in words. Seeing it written down can bring it to life, make it more tangible, and deepen your connection with it. You might also consider creating a vision board or using images that represent your why, keeping it in your sights daily.
Visualise It: Envision yourself living your ‘why.’ What does it look like? How does it feel? Use the power of visualisation to align yourself with your ‘why.’ There’s no better place to visit than the greatest nation that ever existed… your ‘imagi’nation!
Affirm It: Formulate a powerful affirmation or mantra that encapsulates your ‘why.’ Repeat it daily, and make it an integral part of your actions and decisions through a morning ritual or daily practice.
Reflect on It: Evaluate how your daily actions align with your ‘why.’ If you notice any misalignment, ponder how you can adjust your course. Be intentional about planning actions that bring you closer to your dream.

The Last Word: Your ‘Why’ and You
When your ‘why’ is potent, obstacles may slow you down, but they won’t stop you. You’ll view setbacks not as hindrances but as setups for grand comebacks. Remember, the journey towards your dreams may be arduous, but armed with a compelling ‘why,’ you’ll find the strength to forge ahead.
So, I ask you: What is your ‘why’? How will you remind yourself of it daily?
