You’re ready!
It’s time to be the master of YOU. Your journey. Your life.
Today, I want to talk to you about mastering yourself. It’s one of the modules that I teach within the third step (Action) of my 4-Step Value System, and it’s the one that gets you to truly understand the power that you hold. I get it, right now you might not be feeling that power. That’s ok, you haven’t given yourself the time and space to feel that power. Let’s fix that now, and get into mastering yourself.
What is self mastery?
To master yourself is to understand yourself and your capabilities, and to take action on the basis of this understanding to shape your own life.
It also means, you are responsible for your own experience of life. Where you are right now in your life, it’s because of you. Yes, I know other people influence and impact your life. But ultimately, you are where you are in your life because of the decisions you made (or didn’t make), and the actions you took (or didn’t take).
You are the CEO of your life, whether you realise it yet or not. What does that mean? That means that you get to call the shots. You get to create your reality. Yeah, you.
When you master yourself, you become the driving force that influences your own life. You decide the lens in which you view what is happening around you, and you decide how external forces will impact you.
You also recognise that other people’s lives, opinions, and goals are none of yo’ business, so mind your beeswax and concentrate on what you can control, which is you.
Mastering yourself seems like a difficult, if not impossible task. It’s not. It’s a task that requires time, patience, and intentionality. It also requires giving yourself grace while you’re figuring out how to do it. It’s a skill that comes with repeatedly putting yourself to the test.
How to master yourself
Becoming the master of yourself is a very personal journey, it’s one that you need to design for yourself. With that being said, I’m going to give you 4 Key Considerations that will get you on the right path to Mastering YOU.
- Understand your strengths and your weaknesses
You can’t master yourself without understanding exactly what you can do, and your limits. Right? Take a deep dive into who you are, reflect on the achievements you’ve made, the skills you’ve used and demonstrated. Consider what you’ve struggled with, and where you can improve or upskill. Get familiar with what you bring to the table, to you and to those around you, and what you need help with. And keep in mind that knowing what falls outside of your capability is equally as important.
Make sure you’re giving yourself full credit for strengths. Things that you take for granted or that feel “small or silly” to be acknowledged as strengths, are still strengths. One day, they’ll come in handy, maybe not even for you, but you knowing means you can share with someone else. So, get familiar with them.
- Make intentional & mindful decisions
I said it before, but it bears repeating. You are the CEO of your life. Your decisions matter, and you need to act like they do. Give yourself the space and time to make decisions mindfully and start living your life on purpose.
If you’re asked to take on a task at work, don’t rush to say yes because it’s the big boss of the boss of the other boss, and you want to impress them by being ultra-available. Consider your workload, how the task fits into what you want to be doing, and the pros and cons of taking it on at that particular moment of time. Be realistic, ask yourself what the impact to your mental health and financial wellbeing will be if you accept the task. Think about whether you want to be working with or for the individual that’s asking you to take on the task. They may have seniority over you, but they don’t have ‘power’ over you. You hold your power. You ALONE are the CEO of your life. Act like it. When faced with decisions, make decisions as if you believed you were in control of your life and watch how the boundaries you set will 100% transform your future for the better.
- Take control over what’s not going right
It’s really easy to fall into the role of victim of life’s circumstances, and stay a victim. Bad things happen. Sometimes, stuff goes really, really wrong, and it sucks. But. You are not powerless. You 👏🏾 need 👏🏾 to 👏🏾 take👏🏾 control. All of the advice I give, I have personally implemented myself long before starting this business. But this advice… it’s what started my journey to getting me to be the entrepreneur I am today. I was in a physically and mentally abusive relationship, and my decision to identify what was not going right (my past traumas that kept me stuck in cycles of abuse, my low self-esteem, my willingness to sacrifice myself for the smallest signs of love, I can go on and on) and FIX IT swung things around for me in the most dramatic of ways.
If you’re having a challenging time with your mental health and wellbeing, take action and get therapeutic support or counselling. If you’re unable to cope with stress or feeling overwhelmed, create a routine or increase your physical activity that helps you manage it, better still, get a coach!. If you’re finding yourself obsessively thinking negatively about yourself, take control of your thought patterns by retraining your brain to give you positive and more supportive feedback. If you’re not paid enough at your job, either get that raise you need, or find a better paying job.
You are not the victim of your circumstances. You’re a victim of your delay to take action. There is an action that you can take TODAY. You’re the CEO of your own life, and nobody’s going to be volunteering to fix things for you. Get up Queen, take action, and fix what needs fixing.
Set yourself a difficult task, and complete it
Give yourself space and time to demonstrate to yourself that you, contrary to what you (and maybe other people) have been telling you, are more than capable of taking on and nailing difficult tasks. What is difficult for you might be easy for somebody else, and what’s impossible for you might be routine to somebody else. Determine for yourself something that is difficult, like maybe establishing a healthy running routine, or learning a new language. Make it something that sparks your interest. Set yourself a SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound) goal and then break the tasks down into very small steps, or milestones. Then start by doing the small, easy tasks, and work your way up to the more challenging ones. Show yourself that you CAN do hard things if you put your mind to it.
All right Queen, it’s time for you to take control, and become the Master of You. You are about to find out exactly what you’re capable of. Now, all that’s standing between you and Mastering Yourself is… you. So, step out of your own way, step into the role of CEO of your life.
Fix your crown.
